The weather really did try to scupper my plans, with 2 and half inches of snow falling early on the Saturday morning. We had had something like a 10 degree drop in temperature overnight, going from gorgeous warm sunshine to soft floaty snowflakes in less than 24 hours! When I planned the workshops, I never thought the weather would be a factor in mid-March, but with my past in Meteorology, the irony really wasn’t lost on me! So after building a lovely snowman with Mia and moving the Saturday afternoon workshop forward by an hour to get everyone home safely, the ladies thankfully arrived at the Studio without any hassle.
The snow fell softly and quietly outside as I explained that the ladies could either make a foam-free design using chicken wire or use floral foam. On the Saturday all the ladies opted for floral foam, whilst the Sunday ladies chose chicken wire. I had brought in a wonderful array of containers from I.S. Sundries and a fabulous selection of spring flowers from CJ Love. There were so many to choose from, from Icelandic Poppies to Ranunculus, Larkspur to Roses and my favourites Astrantia.
The idea behind the workshops was to spend quality time with Mum, so between Daughter and Mum all of the lovely ladies made beautiful arrangements together, whilst drinking tea and eating cake. The designs they made were so very different, but all equally stunning. For complete novices, I was completely blown away. No one surprised me more than my Mum. She quietly protested in the corner that she didn’t know what she was doing, but made this gorgeous little basket that I would have happily have sent out to a customer, it was that good! I was so proud of her!
